Curtir Ciência offers a tour of the architectural preservation and activity of the tanneries. The Memory Ticket gives you a tour of the Old Âncora Tannery, “home” of Curtir Ciência. The building dates back to the 17th century and was exemplarily restored by the Municipality of Guimarães, maintaining the original design of its former function and the marks of that activity, such as the tanks, presses and lagaretas where the hides were washed, beaten and dyed.
This visit is particularly aimed at those interested in Industrial Architectural Heritage and the history of Guimarães and the tanning industry.
The Old Âncora Tannery is part of Guimarães' industrial heritage.
The Memory Tour, which costs two euros, is guided and covers parts of the building, the memories of tannery activity and the techniques used to preserve the architecture. It operates at the same time as Curtir Ciência.
